Likewise, others have commented in the past about the necessity of having wiring diagrams, assembly manuals and any kind of service literature you can get your hands on in your library. Spending $30 or so for a reprint and having basic information at your fingertips pays off in the long run, as well as makes for interesting reading. I can't tell you how many times they've come to the rescue of people, whether they're doing the work themselves or hand it off to a mechanic who's never touched a vintage 'Bird in their lifetime. A check of the '64 and '65 shop manuals in the same section should have a photo illustrating them.Īnd, yes, I feel very strongly about people needing to have a copy of the Shop Manual, even if they've been around these cars for 40+ years (like me). The last post points out where the lift pad locations are called out in the '66 T-bird Shop Manual on page 17-6. My bruised knuckles remind me how tight that engine bay can be every time I wrench on it, so just wanted to see if anyone else had experience. Has anyone used these, or any other brand of shorty headers? Do they fit easily? Is there any noticeable difference in mileage, throttle response/pep? Do they require vast changes to the existing exhaust system, or just little tweaks? Also, Sanderson claims that you shouldn't use gaskets with their headers, just a thin bead of high-temp RTV - and I've read differing accounts of whether or not that's valid. I have a 1965 Bird with a stock 390 and am looking to install headers as well as some flowmasters or. ![]() So since I'd be removing those parts anyway, I'm thinking of going with a set of used ceramic-coated Sanderson shorty headers that a local guy has, just to let her breathe a little easier. This area is for posting questions/information concerning 1964-66 year Thunderbirds NO FOR SALE POSTINGS. I think it's not only leaking at the head/manifold interfaces, but also at the manifold/collector gasket. So among the list of my '65 bird's ailments are a crazy exhaust leak.
